A Strong Start: Armavir Parents Embrace Early Childhood Support in Myasnikyan

COAF’s 0–3 pilot program is helping parents better understand and support their children during the most formative years of life.
Child development experts agree: the earliest years of life—especially from birth to age three—are among the most formative. During this time, children reach critical milestones that shape not only how they learn and communicate, but how they grow, connect, and thrive later in life.
"The greatest investment we can make in a child’s first three years is quality time and emotional availability."
Tamar Harutyunyan, Psychological Services Manager
But what does this mean for parents in rural Armenia? And do they have the tools and support needed to guide their children through these pivotal years?
A Program Designed for Parents
These questions were at the heart of COAF’s 0–3 Pilot Program, designed to empower parents with knowledge, confidence, and practical skills during their child’s earliest stage of development.
The program began with a series of three seminars, where parents engaged with a multidisciplinary team of doctors, psychologists, and speech therapists. Together, they explored key aspects of early childhood development—from communication and emotional bonding to cognitive growth—equipping parents with a deeper understanding of what matters most in these first years.

Learning Through Play and Observation
Learning continued beyond the seminars. Parents were then invited to the Youredjian Child and Family Center in Myasnikyan, where they brought their children for guided play sessions under the observation of COAF specialists.
“From the meetings, I understood that it is very important for my child that I spend a lot of time playing with my child,” one parent remarked. Through something as simple and powerful as play, professionals were able to observe each child’s development and offer personalized guidance to parents.
“Now I try to dedicate more free time to my child and play together, because I can feel how enjoyable it is for him.”
These sessions also introduced families to practical, engaging activities they could bring home—simple games that foster connection, stimulate development, and help parents feel more confident in how they spend time with their children during these early years.
Another parent reflected, “Now I try to dedicate more free time to my child and play together, because I can feel how enjoyable it is for him.”
From Uncertainty to Confidence
By the conclusion of the pilot in February, participating families had completed six visits—and many were eager more after observing tangible results in their children’s development.
“My child now accepts my absence more easily, communicates and plays more freely with other children.”
One parent shared, “My child has become less dependent on me.” Another reflected, “My child now accepts my absence more easily, communicates and plays more freely with other children.”
Babies and toddlers can often feel like a mystery, especially for new parents navigating these years for the first time. But the 0–3 Pilot Program demonstrates that with the right support, that uncertainty can give way to understanding, confidence, and meaningful connection.
A Strong Start for a Brighter Future
When parents are empowered, they build the foundation for a brighter, healthier future, from the very beginning.
