Transform Lives in Rural Armenia
In the rural region of Lori, Armenia, sports fields and playgrounds can be few, and quality spaces of play are even rarer.
These spaces are essential to every childhood. They are the grounds where confidence takes root and life-long friendships form. They are spaces that teach us that when we fall down – we get back up.
The COAF SMART Center provides kids from over 30 village communities with free innovative afterschool programs, but something is still missing – a proper space to play. Together we can change that.
Let’s put the ball in their court. Together, we can build a new sports complex for the children of rural Armenia.
Sports teach kids cooperation, problem-solving, and leadership skills, shaping them into future leaders and team players.
Studies show student-athletes have better grades, higher attendance, and improved concentration, setting them up for success in school and beyond.
Sports keep kids active and strong, reducing the risk of obesity, heart disease, and diabetes while building lifelong healthy habits.
COAF aims to raise $200,000 from April 1st and June 1st, to build a modern, multi-purpose sports field and playground at the SMART Center in Lori – an educational hub connecting 30 communities each week to free afterschool programming. The Armen and Gloria Hampar Family Foundation has graciously committed $50,000 in seed funding to help us reach our goal.
The Bedian Family pledged $75,000 to our Spring Appeal – but we need your help to unlock it! Every dollar you give is matched one-to-one until we reach $75K, doubling your impact. Your $50 becomes $100, $500 turns into $1,000 – every dollar counts!
Featuring advanced resin-based turf for soccer, basketball, and volleyball.
A safe, engaging space for our youngest SMART learners to develop key physical, social, and intellectual skills.
Including lighting, drainage systems, fencing, and benches to ensure the space is fully functional and accessible.
A 2018 World Health Organization (WHO) study, found that only 16% of boys and 12% of girls in Armenia participated in sports, with numbers dropping among 15- to 17-year-olds.
At COAF’s SMART Center in Lori, we have the power to change that – providing 1,600 students from 30 communities with access to a dynamic new sports complex where they can play, grow, and thrive.
Because Every Child Deserves a Place to Play
“If there were a professional football and basketball field here, I think all COAF SMART kids would go and play there – definitely. I can’t imagine life without sports.”
Taron Petrosyan
14 years old, Vanadzor city
“Sports are for everyone, regardless of gender. I think it’s good that a girl doesn’t feel limited and tries out any field she wants.”
Mariam Margaryan
16 years old, Debed village
“I started playing football with my friends in the yard. Whenever we were free, when homework wasn’t in the way, we’d call each other and go play. I wish there was a nice field at SMART, where they would invite me to play. “
Vahram Martirosyan
12 years old, Tumanyan village
