SMART Center Mandarin Instructor, Lori

YOUR ROLE

If you are a highly energetic Chinese /Mandarin/ specialist who has working experience with children and is an education enthusiast, then being the Mandarin Instructor in COAF’s Debed SMART Center is a perfect role for you. Your duties will include:

YOUR TEAM

You will be joining the COAF SMART Programs team and be a part of a multidisciplinary team working with the students of the center with an individual approach. You  will work under the leadership of COAF SMART Education Operations Manager and will be working in close contact with the team of the instructors of the center. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

CONTENT CREATION AND INSTRUCTION (80%)

  • Develop theoretical and practical content for the Mandarin program, constantly perfecting it according to the international and national standards.
  • Create respective syllabi, lesson plans, hand-outs, exercises, presentations and e-learning materials. 
  • Develop and implement programmatic learning outcomes and measuring  tools for tracking students’ progress.
  • Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements.
  • Lead Mandarin HSK level 1-2 classes with 5 groups of students at a time. 
  • Assist in the development of supplemental learning materials and activities to meet varying academic needs of students.
  • Track students’ individual and team performance and give them regular feedback, review and grade their assignments and take notes on their progress.
  • Plan and conduct projects in completion of each course.
  • Implements effective classroom management techniques.
  • Implement different ideas as part of project-based learning at the end of each course.
  • Assist in the development of supplemental learning materials and activities to meet varying academic needs of students.

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES AND COMMUNICATION (20%)

  • Individually inform students and/or parents of the course requirements, schedules and absences,  evaluation procedures.
  • Work efficiently in a multi-disciplinary team and build teams of idea generators, creators, developers, implementers around in their field․
  • Ensure a safe, creative and imagination boosting working and learning atmosphere.
  • Participate in short or long-term on-job training organized by COAF and/or partner organizations. 

YOU

We’re expecting your best and require that:

YOU HAVE

  • Mandarin (HSK) Level 4 minimum or have an equivalent alternative proficiency exam result. 
  • Have experience in formal or non-formal education, ability to work with children.
  • How to design a syllabus in Mandarin.
  • The nuances of individual and group work
  • Verbal & written Armenian, knowledge of English and Russian is a plus.
  • Non-formal education methods.
  • Have higher education and/or relevant teaching experience.

  • Design a hands program content.
  • Organize, prioritize & multitask.
  • Work independently, work efficiently under pressure.

The “Children of Armenia” Charitable Fund (COAF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization aimed at improving the quality of life in rural Armenia, with a particular focus on children and youth. COAF’s target development areas are education, healthcare, child and family services, as well as social and economic development. COAF launched its programs in 2004, starting in one village and expanding to 82 villages and communities across the country with an investment of more than $70 million, impacting well over 107,000 people across rural Armenia.

Since 2015, COAF has developed and started implementing SMART Initiatives. COAF SMART is an exemplary model of development and is presently being replicated in other regions and communities throughout Armenia. The first COAF SMART Center was inaugurated on May 27, 2018 near the village of Debed, Lori Region.
