2023: A Year of Resilience, Achievements, and Hope

As we bid farewell to 2023, a year marked by unprecedented challenges and heartache for Armenia and Artsakh, we find solace and inspiration in the resilience of our community and the tireless support from individuals like you. Despite the difficulties, COAF was able to stand steadfast in its mission to uplift our compatriots, thanks to your incredible generosity and commitment.

A GALA TO REMEMBER

Our 20th-anniversary Annual Holiday Gala, held on December 9 in NYC, was a testament to the strength of our community. We raised a historic $10+ million, bringing together our global community of supporters, including renowned figures like actor Joe Manganiello, actress Andrea Martin, and dedicated COAF ambassadors John and Tamar Akhoian.

BOOSTING LOCAL ECONOMIES

In the face of adversity, COAF continued to support local economies. We launched self-sustaining business ventures like Concept by COAF, Armenia’s largest social enterprise, and our Visitor Center by COAF—an innovative one-stop-shop for all things travel. These ventures not only provide employment opportunities but contribute to the stability of rural communities.

BOOSTING LOCAL ECONOMIES

Securing a landmark €10 million grant from the European Commission through the European Investment Bank (EIB) Global allowed us to expand our SMART initiatives. Thanks to this landmark investment, two new SMART Centers will be established in Armenia’s Syunik region, furthering our commitment to empowering children and youth through innovative education.

ENRICHING LIVES THROUGH ARTS

Thanks to the Vahé & Lucie Foundation, our arts programs offered at the SMART Center in Lori flourished. Masterclasses with renowned artists prepared students for an arts competition, resulting in 52 winning artworks showcased at a capstone award ceremony. This initiative not only nurtured creativity but also highlighted the immense talent within our communities.

CHILD & FAMILY CENTERS EXPANSION

In response to social challenges, COAF committed to launching three additional Child & Family Centers in Armavir, Shirak, and Syunik thanks to the invaluable support of the Youredjian Family Foundation. These Centers provide essential services such as early childhood education, speech therapy, and psychosocial support.

LORI SMART CENTER MILESTONES

In 2023, we also celebrated the 5th anniversary of the SMART Center as well as its impact on over 4,000 children and youth across 28 communities in Lori. Through an extensive range of after-school programs, events, masterclasses, and excursions, the center consistently offers transformative opportunities, playing a pivotal role in broadening horizons and positively shaping the lives of those it serves.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT ACROSS REGIONS

Extending our educational initiatives to the Armavir and Aragatsotn region, we launched nine after-school programs, spanning sports, arts, and STEM, across 29 communities. These initiatives are designed to cultivate essential life skills and kindle the creative spirit within our youth, enabling them to uncover new talents and reach their full potential.

PROMOTING LORI AS A TOURISM DESTINATION

Our festival COAF Fest: Arts, Crafts, and Music showcased the beauty of the Lori region, attracting over 5,000 visitors. This event brought together local talent, showcased captivating art installations, and promoted handmade crafts by local producers, boosting the region’s visibility as a prime tourism destination.

PROJECT H.O.P.E.

In response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the displacement of 100,000 Armenians from Artsakh, our Project H.O.P.E. rapid response efforts provided Housing, Opportunities in Education, Psychosocial and health support, and Empowerment through Capacity Building.

A GROWING TEAM FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE

In 2023, COAF expanded its team to 200 dedicated individuals. This growth reflects our collective commitment to bringing change to Armenia’s most overlooked communities. With a stronger team, we look forward to continuing our mission with renewed energy and determination.

As we close this chapter and look to the future, we extend our deepest gratitude for your continuous support. Your commitment has not only sustained COAF during a challenging year but has also empowered us to reach new heights and make a lasting impact on the lives of children and families in Armenia.

Wishing you a hopeful and brighter 2024.
